Outs Made Easy

In Texas Hold ‘Em, players get dealt two cards and then try to complete the best poker hand with the five cards that come out on the board. If you are holding a hand, like a pair or one that has four cards to a suit, then the other cards that can improve or complete your hand are known as “outs.” The number of outs you have determines the probability of winning

It’s good to know what the outs are for any potential hand so that you automatically have the answer without to figure it out every time. Whether you’re under pressure to bet or just intimidated by numbers, knowing the outs is a helpful tool in poker.

Here are the outs for making a possible hand when you are holding cards like this:

* A made pair: 2 outs to improve the hand to a set or trips

* Two pair: 4 outs to improve to a full house

* Inside straight draw: 4 outs to fill in a straight

* Open ended straight: 8 outs to complete the straight

* Four cards to a flush: 9 outs to complete

* Trips: only 1 out to make quads

* Drawing both to a flush or open ended straight: 15 outs to complete

The more outs you have, the better your chances of drawing a card that completes your poker hand.
