Liverpool Skyline May Undergo Major Change in the Near Future

Richmont Properties and Y1 have joined hands to create the tallest tower outside of London, at Liverpool. The area demarcated for this construction happens to be the erstwhile location of the King Edwards Pub on the cross road between King Edwards Street and Leeds Street. The new skyscraper designed and to be constructed by Richmont Properties is to be called King Edwards Tower.

The King Edwards Tower will offer desk space for commercial or office purposes, residential area as well as space allocated for leisure and fun activities. The initial plans for the tower were drawn up two years ago and proposed the construction of two towers, but were rejected, mainly due to the opposition by a local landholder, Peel, and CABE, which is a regulatory body of the government.

If the current plans are approved then the developer will create a single building, consisting of 54 storeys and rising to nearly 165m in height, thereby making it the tallest tower in the region. This tower, when created will be taller than the Lumiere in Leeds as well as the Piccadilly Tower in Manchester, which are the two current tallest towers in the area outside London.

Richmont Properties expects the cost of construction of the tower to be around £130m and has obtained the necessary finances to complete the construction. The current plans of the tower allow for 25,000 sq ft to be allocated for office space, 7,500 sq ft of retail space and the construction of 412. The plans also contain designs for a restaurant and bar, both of which will be constructed on the rooftop, enabling patrons to view the skyline of Liverpool.
